GS1 Standards

GS1 standards - a common language for doing business

GS1 standards are used in many industries around the world, including retail and manufacturing. They are designed to ensure that trading partners use a common language when conducting business, allowing medical devices to be tracked worldwide as they move through the supply chain. In the healthcare sector, GS1 standards support better patient safety and bring economic benefits, through automatic product identification, traceability and data sychronisation. NHS eProcurement Strategy and GS1

The National Health Service (NHS) eProcurement Strategy, published in May 2014, mandated the use of GS1 and Peppol standards as part of the terms and conditions for doing business with the NHS. For NHS trusts and their suppliers this means driving the implementation of GS1 standards throughout their supply chain.

As a leading provider of supply chain technology to the healthcare industry, GHX is working with GS1 UK to make this journey as straightforward as possible.

A GS1 accredited solution provider

As an accredited GS1 Solution Provider, we understand the requirements of GS1 standards and work to incorporate them across our solutions, for example, through our efforts to drive adoption of the GS1 XML CIN file format and by publishing product data to Health ConneXion, our GDSN-certified healthcare data pool.

The GHX NEXUS catalogue and contract management solution includes fields for the most common GS1 standard codes, such as Global Trade Item Numbers (GTINs) and Global Location Numbers (GLNs). Our inventory management and requisitioning platform, GHX Procure, can also read standard GS1 barcodes and is GS1 certified.

How we can help with GS1 compliance

Our global standards experts can provide support to help you with:

  • Aligning GS1 Global Location Numbers (GLNs) in the GHX Exchange and sharing the required information with your trading partners.
  • Reconciling account numbers to your trading partners' GLNs for consistent shipping and billing.
  • Advice and guidance on how to implement and benefit from GS1 standards in your organisation, including GTINs, GLNs and GSRNs.
