GHXcellence Awards recognize supply chain leaders that are driving savings and efficiency for their organizations, their trading partners and the healthcare industry through automation and best practices.

Supply Chain Leadership (Supplier)

This award recognizes the individual, from a supplier organization, who is transforming supply chain through innovative use of technology and collaboration with their trading partners.

Prerequisite

  • Actively involved with GHX for at least one year

  • Demonstrates qualitative and quantitative leadership in the healthcare supply chain
  • Uses GHX products and services in innovative ways
  • Collaborates with trading partners in the GHX Community
  • Champions role supply chain excellence can play in driving better clinical and financial value
  • Mentors others in the industry

2019 Winner: Dennis Black, BD

2019 - Dennis Black
  • Dennis is an outstanding example of an industry professional dedicated to making the entire business of healthcare more efficient with the goal of delivering higher quality patient care at a lower cost. He has been a champion for industry-wide improvements in healthcare, including collaborative efforts with providers on achieving the “Perfect Order” and data standards adoption.

  • At BD, Dennis has led implementation of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Unique Device Identification (UDI) regulation throughout the company, coordinating across various business units and systems to deliver a world-class capability. Through his work he has elevated what some view as a regulatory requirement to a driver of efficiency and cost savings for providers and suppliers, and improved safety for the patients that they serve.

  • Dennis also selflessly commits his time to industry organizations for the betterment of the global healthcare industry, serving on the GS1 Healthcare Global Leadership Team, the GS1 US Executive Leadership Committee and the Strategic Marketplace Initiative (SMI) board of directors.

  • Some refer to Dennis as “Professor Black” because he is always willing to share his knowledge and teach others. He frequently offers his time and insights by participating in several industry work groups with organizations such as GHX, AdvaMed and the Association for Healthcare Resource & Materials Management (AHRMM) to help solve a variety of healthcare challenges. This mentorship to the industry sets him apart as a true leader within the overall healthcare community.
