An experienced financial management executive and respected leader, Rob Gillespie was named chief financial officer for GHX in November 2007. One of GHX’s original employees when the company was founded in 2000, Gillespie served three years as the company controller before pursuing other career options. Gillespie returned to GHX after serving as chief financial officer of the wholesale markets group for Level (3) Communications, LLC, an international communications company.
In his current role at GHX, Gillespie is responsible for directing the company’s fiscal functions. He also provides strategic leadership by working with the executive management team to establish long-range goals, strategies, plans, and policies.
At Level (3), Gillespie was responsible for $2.5 billion in technology, infrastructure and voice revenue. During his tenure, Gillespie integrated the financial results of several acquired companies and implemented foundational processes for financial reporting and forecasting. Gillespie also restructured and upgraded the financial staff to support the company’s key business operations, drove cross functional improvements in financial operations, and established a finance IT function to manage critical business data and improve business decision making.
Gillespie previously served as chief financial officer of the auto warranty services division for GE Consumer Finance, the fourth largest independent provider of vehicle service contracts in North America, where he consistently exceeded net income and cash flow goals. In this role, Gillespie led financial due diligence and execution of OEM agreements and acquisitions;implemented a capital restructuring strategy to reduce inter-company and external debt and increase projected Return on Equity (ROE);restructured the finance function to align with key business goals;and created a sales finance function that generated significant top line growth.
Gillespie’s prior positions include founder/principal of RCAP Financial Consulting, corporate controller and director of finance for GHX, audit manager for the internal consulting unit at General Electric, and assistant manager of corporate real estate finance for the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce.
Gillespie holds an MBA from the University of North Carolina Kenan-Flagler Business School and a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Western Ontario
