Joint Purchasing Corporation the First Group Purchasing Organization to Connect to Global Healthcare Exchange
NEW YORK and WESTMINSTER, Colo., March 19, 2001 - Global Healthcare Exchange, LLC (GHX), a leading provider of business-to-business procurement solutions for the healthcare industry, has agreed to connect to Joint Purchasing Corporation (JPC), a cost management services company that provides group purchasing and supply consumption information for its 2600 members. This connection will enable JPC's healthcare provider participants to manage their procurement processes more efficiently than has been possible before, allowing hospital and alternate site staff to focus on patient care.

"Connecting to GHX was a natural decision for us," said JPC President and CEO Ralph Dean. "We know our customers want to be able to choose which suppliers they purchase their products and equipment from, and the breadth of GHX's manufacturers and distributors will make that possible. We also feel good about teaming up with a company that is as committed as we are to being a long-term player in the healthcare industry."

JPC will continue to provide its hospitals what Dean describes as "the backroom for sourcing, facilitating and bidding," for individualized contracts as well as cost elimination strategies and financial measurement based on utilization. "Working through GHX is yet another cost elimination strategy for us," explains Dean. "With our connection to GHX, we have the potential to streamline and automate our management resources to provide continued and improved opportunities for cost savings while still helping our members to enhance patient care and clinical outcomes. So, when developing contracts, it only makes sense to utilize the same information exchange platform that most suppliers also utilize."

The first JPC members to be connected to GHX will most likely be regional network cooperatives including Coastal Cooperative of New Jersey and Cooperative Healthcare Services of South Jersey.

"JPC's decision to use our industry standard catalog and our deep integration with supplier and provider members gives them a great advantage," says GHX President Mike Mahoney. "Our two companies share a common vision of helping hospitals reduce costs. Through GHX's open and neutral platform, JPC becomes a contributing member of the exchange that will enable participants to reduce costs and to continue to expand the care they provide to their communities."
