Patrick C. McCarthy, Esq.
Vice President, Exchange Services
Patrick C. McCarthy brings more than 20 years of experience in healthcare, supply chain management, e-procurement, sales and marketing, law and strategic business planning to his position as vice president, Exchange Services, for GHX. In this role, McCarthy has overall responsibility for GHX’s core offerings in the area of exchange connectivity, content management and financial services, as well as product development, technology operations and customer service.
McCarthy understands the business needs of GHX’s diverse customer base. He works closely with both buyers and sellers to help them develop collaborative business services and solutions for their mutual benefit, while ensuring that GHX as a whole provides the level and types of services to support the industry and its specific market segments.
McCarthy led both commercial and operational efforts for GHX as the company grew from 300 to 3,500 participating hospitals. After joining GHX in November 2000 as director of sales for the western United States, he played a key role in creating a critical mass of participation in the trading exchange by healthcare providers, suppliers and GPOs. This enabled these trading partners to conduct business electronically and more efficiently with as many of their vendors and customers as possible.
Later, as vice president, Professional Services, McCarthy helped more than 1,800 hospitals and 100 suppliers participating in GHX to improve business processes and data accuracy and obtain maximum value through utilization of their investment in e-commerce. He then served as executive vice president, Business Solutions, managing pharmaceutical solutions, business intelligence and other new business ventures.
From 2006 to 2008, McCarthy was involved with start-up companies focused on new technologies in the healthcare supply chain, including product validation and inventory management solutions.
Prior to joining GHX, McCarthy held positions with Abbott Laboratories and Procter & Gamble. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmaceutical Management from the University of Kentucky and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Detroit.
