
Karen Conway
Director, Industry Programs
Karen Conway has more than 25 years experience in marketing and communications, more than half of which have been in healthcare. Her areas of expertise include strategic planning, market research and analysis, media relations, government and regulatory affairs, crisis communications, and conference and event planning. Conway currently serves as director, Industry Programs, for GHX. In addition to her responsibilities for the company’s public relations efforts, Conway works closely with leadership within GHX and within the healthcare industry as a whole to identify opportunities to leverage the GHX community and capabilities to address common challenges and opportunities. Conway began working with GHX as outside communications counsel during its start-up phase and joined the company as strategic communications manager in 2002.
Prior to joining GHX, Conway served as principal of Conway Associates, a company that specialized in applying the principles of continual quality improvement and effective strategic planning to help organizations develop and implement communications programs to achieve their objectives. Her sound, yet unique, approach to strategic communications was developed in collaboration with her business partner (and father), Earl Conway, who worked directly with Sam Walton to improve business relationships and supply chain processes between WalMart and Procter & Gamble.
Conway is active in numerous healthcare industry associations, including: HIMSS, AHRMM, SMI, and the Arizona State University Health Sector Supply Chain Consortium. She also has eight years experience as a journalist and nine as a lobbyist at the state and national levels. Conway is an accomplished speaker and writer, with her work published in numerous trade publications as well as Redbook and Parent magazines. She recently contributed a chapter on the evolution and application of eBusiness in healthcare to a book published by Springer entitled, “eBusiness in Healthcare.” Conway graduated cum laude from The Colorado College.
